Wattlegrove Rehab Orange Open Day February 11, 2016
An open day for community service and health providers with an interest in the rehabilitation program and who want to know more about Wattlegrove.
Wattlegrove Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre accepted its first resident on January 18, 2016. Lyndon Community opened Wattlegrove after closing Lyndon House in Canowindra in December last year.
Wattlegrove is on the Bloomfield Hospital campus in Orange. It accommodates 16 men and women in single rooms. The open day is from 11am to 1pm on Thursday February 11, 2016. A BBQ lunch will be provided.
The open day is for community service and health providers with an interest in the rehabilitation program and who want to know more about Wattlegrove.
Wattlegrove is a three month treatment program for people with drug and alcohol problems who need a safe drug and alcohol free environment to support them in reducing their substance use. The program helps residents to develop social and recreational skills to replace drug and alcohol use as well as developing vocational skills to improve employment prospects when people go home.
Support for people with brain injuries, intellectual disabilities and other cognitive impairments is a particular focus of the Wattlegrove program. Drug and alcohol treatment facilities for this group are limited and specific strategies have been developed by Lyndon in conjunction with an advisory group of national and international experts in the field. Lyndon CEO Ed Zarnow said the advisory group input has been invaluable.
“We have had great input on how to develop a program that will work well for people with cognitive impairments. That advice has come from local experts such as Jane Gosper from Carewest, academics including Professor Leanne Dowse from UNSW who heads up the evaluation team and Dr Carolyn Lemsky, a specialist in substance use and brain injury from Canada,” Mr Zarnow said.
Referrals to Wattlegrove and Lyndon’s other drug and alcohol programs can be made by calling 63612300 between 8 and 3 on weekdays.
Media is invited to the open day – CEO Ed Zarnow, Program Leader Joel Palmer and resident will be available for interviews at 11.30am.
